The Ghastly Ones are coming!!!!!

July 2009.. The Ghastly Ones first and ONLY UK show.. Damn.. this needs celebrating!! Hence my retro style poster for their appearance at The Blastoff Festival in Nottingham.. COOL!!

The next generation

Here's some more of Rachel's drawings for your viewing pleasure. The robot was one of the first drawing she did for me, and I keep it with me in work.. it's awesome!

The one in the middle is a Frankenstein type monster and the square fella at the bottom is one of my favourites.. he's so cool.

Keep up the great work Rachel.. these are wicked! I'm so proud of you!

The return of the king... of the underworld!

Here's a fun project I put together for a giggle.. Marilyn Manson returns with a new album and an appearance at this year's Download Festival in June.

I did a sketch of this little gremlin thing yesterday and thought it would make a funky poster.. I added in the speech bubble to signify Manson's return, although I'm sure this is far too funny and cheeky for Mr Manson's tastes!

I'm pretty stoked about it myself though.. really fun project!

Electric Wizard

...and here's a variation on the Electric Wizard poster i did (with the Illustrated Devil Girl). This employs the same montage techniques I used for the war of words entry.

more Serpentcult!

Here's a variation for you for another Serpentcult gig taking place... really like these!!

Oh.. before I forget... this weeks word is "NAVIGATE"... expect results next Thursday as per normal.

War of Words... Daughter

Here we are again.. another word another week.. and surprisingly another brief that Dave and I have approached from a very similar angle (we don't discuss what we are going to do for each brief).. Again we seem to be playing close to home as the Horror theme comes to the fore, and it's interesting that as soon as the word 'daughter' came up Dave thought of Iron Maiden (Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter) and I thought of a White Zombie song.. which formed the basis of my entry.. a mock Hammer Film poster, used a slightly different approach this week, in that I did some photo montage work as opposed to an illustration.

Dave's entry is pretty darn brilliant if you ask me! I love everything about this, the background, the composition, the subject.. for me this is the best Dave's produced so far.. It has the feel of the work of Eric Pigors.. great stuff!!

Summer Apparel

I'd buy one... wouldn't you? Just sent this off for consideration as a promo shirt for the upcoming Summer Horrorday Festival.

Hopefully going to be doing a little work for another band shortly too - GRAVEDALE HIGH (www.myspace.com/gravedalehigh). Was hoping to get some more CD artwork, but I'm happy to be helping them out with T-Shirt designs and refreshing their logo.

Summer Horrordays

Here's the response for the poster

Quote-  " That's absolutely awe inspiring!"

YAY me!!

Summer Horrordays are coming!

Summer Horrordays are coming!

Here's my initial submission for the 'Summer Horrorday' Festival poster.

I've had the Creature from the black lagoon character knocking around since the early days. He was one of the first characters I completed when I started out Horror Business, and I felt he lent himself well to the theme of the Festival.

Just waiting for some feedback from Zombina and the Skeletones for it now...

Whatever happens, I like it personally.... there was a lot of  copy to cram into it though!!!

War of Words - JUICE!

Another week... another word, and it turns out.. an absolute nightmare of a word.. I considered everything, from Frankenstein through to naked ladies (again).. In the end settling on using the conotation of the word 'juice'.. power... electricity... JIMI HENDRIX!!!

Dave agreed that it was a horrible word, but really came up trumps, subverting it in a similar manner.. 'power'... ROBOTS... BIG robots!!.. and a sexy lady for good measure!

Brilliant!

Enjoy!

Halloween comes early

Here's a companion picture for the devil girl in a previous post. I'm sure this will find it's way into a band poster at some point soon. Those keen eyes amongst you will notice the recycling of the head.. well aren't you the clever ones!!!

character development

In case you were interested.. here's how the character developed for that poster!

She's Electric

Here's something I've been working on for a few days.. I wanted to emulate a guy called Andrew Bawidamann a little...

Think I succeeded! Really please with this.

War of Words.. Prophecy

Hot damn.. that was a tough word for this week.. thankfully we both managed to scrape through. Dave has produced a nice Star Wars piece, visualizing the story's main theme.. the prophecy of the 'chosen one'.. it's humorous and Star Wars.. what more do you want?

My effort is a visualization of my struggle this week to produce a suitable image.. In the end the difficulty I faced proved to be the catalyst for the picture you see here!

next weeks word... JUICE.

Chosen by randomly opening a page in 'Graphic Design That Works' and sticking my finger in!

Should be fun!!

Calling all Heroes...

In addition to 'The Bat".. here's a pretty grotesque Superman and my take on Wonder Woman.. Look at all the shapes in the Superman setup.. wow.. that's awesome! No wonder it was so quick to put together!

who watches what now?

Well.. Watchmen finally opens in the Cinema this weekend, and I have to admit.. it looks pretty good to me!

In honor of more Super-hero antics.. Here's today's doodle.. The Caped Crusader.. the masked vigilante.. the camp cavalier himself.. BATMAN!.... Really pleased with this, the funky bubble-gum colors are very reminiscent of Adam West era Batman... Done very quickly too! YAY me!

War of Words : RUN!

My entry for this week came to me in a 'flash' of inspiration!! (Eh?.. Eh?) I'm really stoked about this one..I did the doodle (no revisions/re-draws... nothing).. Scanned it in, drew it up, added a montage of images for the backdrop and then the comic elements (obviously inspired by my recent flurry of work).. This was done and dusted within an hour.. start to finish! Really pleased with it.
Dave has gone with Monty Python again for his entry.. love it.. great composition, humorous and very well completed! Its great to see a recognisable 'style' forming in Dave's work (he spends too long worrying about it.. believe me!)..
Looking forward to next weeks challenge now!
