Everybody's doing the Ghastly Stomp!

Here's another concept sketch for a poster.. It's for Spooky Surf/Garage monsters "The Ghastly Ones"... I just need to get motivated enough to start working it up in Illustrator!

I was having an email conversation with my buddy Dave about this creative block and I find that a good way to get through it for me is to work up some band posters.. hence a few of the sketches coming through for posters.

Vampirella..

Oooh.. pretty excited about this one.. no reason really, other than I wasn't even paying attention to what I was drawing and sketched out a head that reminded me of Vampirella.. so quick as a flash (which is pretty quick for me).. I scanned it in and added a spot of colour.. yummy!

I'm loving it! nice, simple and elegant.. splendid.. today turned out to be a good day after all!

War of Words.. ROMANCE

Not too bad a word this week. Made a lot easier for me when I listened to the lyrics for a song called "Love Droid" by the mighty Zombina and the Skeletones, and immediately pictured Princess Leia with R2-D2... and the picture was born.

Dave's struggling with Illustrators block again.. which after last weeks brilliant piece is a real shame.. His work in progress for the Brides of Dracula looks really promising though, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops!

New word is APOCALYPTIC.... thanks Dave!

Return of the Fiend!

Here's a thing.. did a doodle last night whilst wracking my brain over this weeks 'war of words'.. It turned out to be the Misfits Fiend Skull logo thingy.. I recently purchased the 'Land of the Dead' single and was listening to it whilst diddling about.. (it's not as bad as a lot of people are saying.. but I guess they are purists)... but I digress!

Here's a view of the sketch, the finished piece and a 'variation' for your viewing delight.. Think it worked out pretty well myself!

War of Words.. FORTUNE

Lots of ideas for this week, and none of which sadly came to anything... Indiana Jones & Rocky amongst them.

Plumped for a Masked Luchador Champion.. on the verge of 'fortune and glory'..

Dave's is far more interesting.. a new character 'Miss Fortune'.. of which he is rightly proud of! Brilliantly executed and looking not unlike the delectable Emilie Autumn!!

This week... ROMANCE.

Here's a working drawing (for a change).. I'm almost certain it's going to change a lot before it's finished.. but sometimes I find it easier to work on developing the sketch within illustrator as it's easier to play with shapes and such... and I don't get rubber shavings all over the floor and the dog!

Gorefest 2010

Having sent over my poster design for Zombina.. er.. to Zombina (and the boys).. Ash very kindly got back to me with a thumbs up.. just a few minor tweaks and here is the finished piece. He's planning on sending it over to Gorezone for some feedback from them (which is cool).. but as long as the Band dig it.. that's fine by me!

In need of that boost at the moment.. suffering from another bout of the artistic doldrums... bah!

War of Words.. COLD

BRRRR! Damn this crispy weather!

In honor of the subzero conditions, here are the entries for this week's word. Dave teased me with the threat of an impending 'Edward Scissorhands' illustration that he's putting together, but in the meantime here's his frozen popsicle, just about to take a dip!

I went for the obvious (why not?) and just had to do a 'Mr Freeze' image.. did quite a few sketches of him that didn't really float my boat, then produced the simplest of doodles when I wasn't really concentrating and 'hey presto!' Mr Freeze was born! It's nice when that happens.

Because it was a relatively dynamic pose, I wanted to put him into a context.. hence revisiting the 'Black Widow' image I did a while back (as the keen eyed among you will recognize) and using her as a template for Batgirl... TA DAAA!

I've thrown in a close up to show how simple he was to do!

War of Words.. CREATIVES

First word of the new year.. and Dave has hit the ground running.. I love his cutesy rendition of the A Team as the word reminded him of their ability to make something from nothing each week to kick some ass! For some strange reason I could only think of Harry Potter when the word popped up... go figure? Here's Harry on the run from Snape having stolen a 'viagra' inspired potion! WOOT!

New word (in honor of the weather here).. COLD!

Did a super quick doodle on Tuesday.. then a really quick turnaround on the worked up version.. Really pleased with this.. I reckon it'd make a great little maquette myself.

Love it when I turn something round really quickly and it doesn't look poop!

Hullo Everyone.. and Happy New Decade!

Here's Dave's entry for the last word of the week.. BRILLIANT!

The new word is 'Creative' and will (hopefully) be along shortly! I've pretty much been in hibernation for the last 2 weeks and am slowly retraining my pencil arm to draw (it's been opening sweetie wrappers and holding beer bottles for the duration!)..

I am hoping that normal service will be resumed shortly! Please stay tuned!
