Here's my interpretation of Hellboy via Picasso.. If you really, really like this you can buy a nice big professional print of it over at http://www.society6.com/thisishorrorbizalong with another print... and lots more lovely art thingies from me to follow!
For me, this weeks word (which was 'Welcome') could only have been represented by 1 image... Guns & Feckin Roses!!.. Really digging my entry too (if I say so myself) .. it's tipping it's big top hat in the direction of the 'Naughty Naughty Pets' artwork, which suits me fine! Slash was done in about 4 minutes... which is wicked!
Dave is BACK!... and even he's happy with his splendid Arkham Asylum cast.. and so he should be.. it ROCKS!
Here's a Ninja I posted over on the Art Jumble blog last week! Really pleased with this too, I like the shapes and angles.. it's jarring but still quite graceful looking!
Did a doodle at break.. really liked it too!.. So here it is. Ironically I was going to mark this up as Marvel Comics 'Black Widow'.. but I've just checked my buddy Dave's blog and he's gone and posted a Black Widow sketch (and very good it is too).. so now it looks like I'm copying... so here is a' Kick Ass King Fu Killa' instead!
Here's some silly doodles I did last night.. even though I'm getting bogged down with Christmas cards and Calendars in work I'm still looking forward to the Holiday season!
It was nice working in green biro... don't know why!
Golden wasn't too bad a word this week.. I was toying with producing a Sinbad/Golden Flees related image and then plumped for a crappy old Hammer film 'The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires'. I wanted to try my hand at a Mike Mignola inspired piece using lots of black and some muted colours.. it looks okay, except that in retrospect the pose (and hands) make him look more like a malformed Thunderbirds puppet... arse!
Dave's getting back up to speed with his artwork now and this collection of Characters from Lord of the Rings proves the point! Great Stuff!
Interesting word this week.. I was trying to run with an idea that involved Medusa.. but I thought that was a bit obvious.. nudie women and all that.. so I did a sketch of one of the 'Easter Island' heads.. and I really liked it!.. then I thought, what if the heads weren't 'just' heads.. but they had giant robot bodies too.. So that was my entry for Statue sorted!
Dave's struggling with 'Illustrator's block' again this week.. it must be the water round here! His Doctor Who sketches look brilliant though and I'm excited to see what he does with the final piece.... and I knew he'd go for the statues from 'Blink' for his entry!!
More TV doodling.. I watched Zack Snyder's remake of 'Dawn of the Dead' the other night (possibly for the first time all the way through) and really enjoyed it (apart from the bit with the dog in.. don't like animals in films in case something bad happens to them!) Anyhoo.. I did the zombie sketch on the left to represent the boyfriend from the beginning of the movie.
The goofy looking vampire was just me mucking about with shapes again..
YAY... A finished piece for War of Words!! Hurrah!
I seemed to manage my time much better this week and whilst watching a marathon session of 'Most Haunted' I doodled away in my sketchbook.. and my entry for EMPTY magically found it's way onto the page.. It's tenuous.. but I don't care.. I'm really liking the blue demon harpy girl I did.
Dave struggled with the design this week (not the concept).. head over to davehiggins.wordpress.com and see the frustration unfold. The result is worth it though.. another brilliant idea from Mister H.
Well.. seeing as I missed a trick when it came to the perfect Halloween gift.. how's about the perfect christmas gift? I have 2 very smart books available at blurb. Click on an icon to view a preview of each, and do your best ever friend a favour and buy them a copy... maybe.
The only Award Winning Illustrator you've never heard of! That's right folks.. in 2005 I won the International Greetings Award at the New Designers Exhibition in old London Town. I've had work published in magazines all over the globe and I'm still the Invisible Man of the Art World.... But I have a cunning plan to change all that!
I always wanted to be in a Horror Rock Band (but I can't play an instrument to save my life... except on Guitar Hero).. So instead I became the next best thing... a Horror Rock Illustrator!! Oh Yeah... Let's ROCK!!!
