doodle time...

It's as rough as a bears bottom, but it is the germ of a seed of an idea for another Ghastly Ones poster.. this time for a forthcoming gig at 'Haunted House A-go-go'..

Meanwhile, the other Ghastly Ones poster progresses slowly.. Thank you to Rogue and Dave for the positive comments... much appreciated my friends.

Progress Report.. Ghastly Ones poster

You may remember a short while back I posted a concept sketch for a 'Ghastly Ones' poster.. Well, I've finally got round to starting it.. So I thought I'd post a progress report, with a couple of close ups for you... what lucky people you are!

Gig Poster time..

Here's a variant poster for the upcoming Misfits UK 'Stoker's Inferno' Festival appearance poster I put out the other week. This one is inspired by their early DIY ethic look (2 colour 'photocopied' style artwork).

If you go down to the woods today...

.....It's obviously going to be full of bikini clad college girls running around for the sake of it.

War of Words.. MONSTER

Hot diggety! I had an absolute BLAST with this word.. and as such managed to produce 4.. (count 'em) FOUR entires.. Each monster being based on the 4 elements.. Had a great time!!

Dave is still struggling with the drawing block.. but managed to produce this cool portrait of BBC3's 'Being Human' cast in time for the commencement of the next word...

HERO.

more doodles... again

In what seems like an endless succession of rubbish drawings in my doodle pad of late, this little bugger fell out of my pen and onto the page... how pleased I was to have drawn something that didn't look that bad!

I am... IRON MAN

Here's a couple of quickies for you. I decided to add in some 'shade shapes' on this one, and it's really enhanced the original drawing I was working on.. It's clear from the close-up that the shading doesn't make any sense... but I'm not here to follow the rules!

more sketches..

Here's a real rough sketch of 'The Wolfman'.. in honor of the new film.. I know it's had terrible reviews (on the whole) but I really like the look of the movie myself.

a slight return

The adventures of Captain Crosseye continue.. tonight at 9pm..

War of Words.. CRUST

What a fiendish word this week.. Unsurprisingly Dave and I both had similar thoughts regarding a 1950's style Monster/Sci Fi movie poster.. I pursued the idea with a few sketch layouts, but I wasn't feeling the love for it.. maybe because I neglected to reference any material. Dave has stuck with his idea and attached is the very promising work in progress for 'They Came From Beneath'... lovely!

I, on the other hand was walking the dog this morning and a little idea popped into my head.. (thank the Great Goat Lord for little ideas!).. and here it is..

Next week's word is... MONSTER... Boo Yah!!

the only spotted by mediums, priests and old people Death's Head Ghost Squid

Prey you never cast eyes upon this portent of doom... for the Death's Head Ghost Squid will bring about your end..... wwwwwwwwwoooooooohhhhhhhhhh

The even lesser spotted Deep Sea Deaths Head Squid

Normally confined to the pages of nautical folklore and drunken sea shanty, the Deep Sea Death's Head Squid (or Susan) is rumored to grow to gigantic proportions and only rises from the depths in search of love.. Ensnaring hapless sailors and their ships in her luminous pink tentacles of love and dragging them to the black depths below...

ROCK forever

Portrait of A Teenage Rock Star (Circa 1990).. that in no way whatsoever resembles me 20 years ago...

War of Words.. APOCALYPTIC

Upon finding out that this weeks word was another bugger.. my brain went into a mini-meltdown... all my thoughts for it became fuzzy and unfocussed.. I had some rough images in my head, but couldn't get remotely motivated into doing anything for it.. Then on Monday I picked up the new Rob Zombie album. I'd been reading a lot about it being a return to his earlier works, so I was interested in giving it a listen.. sure enough it stands up well to his earlier recordings.. but this isn't a record review, it's a fuggin picture gallery.. So the upshot was, I thought that if there was a soundtrack to the apocalypse, then Rob Zombie would surely be on it somewhere!.. flippin' heck, that was a bit long winded!

Dave's entry is wicked, and much more direct.. it looks swell too.. and it's made me want to draw Tank Girl myself now...

Dave, this entry ROCKS mate!

New word - CRUST... because I'm eating a sandwich... so there!.. oh shit... what have I done??

Goth Girl

Liked that little sketch.. here's a worked up "Goth Girl".

"She's got a date a midnight, with Nosferatu... Oh, baby, Lily Munster, ain't got nothing on you!"
Type O Negative - Black No.1

Everybody's doing the Ghastly Stomp!

Here's another concept sketch for a poster.. It's for Spooky Surf/Garage monsters "The Ghastly Ones"... I just need to get motivated enough to start working it up in Illustrator!

I was having an email conversation with my buddy Dave about this creative block and I find that a good way to get through it for me is to work up some band posters.. hence a few of the sketches coming through for posters.

Still alive... just

Here's some sketchbook doodles.. random stuff, although the girl 'throwing the horns' at the bottom is an idea for a poster for The Donnas.

Damn this 'Illustrators blues' I'm suffering!! Damn it all to hell!

Vampirella..

Oooh.. pretty excited about this one.. no reason really, other than I wasn't even paying attention to what I was drawing and sketched out a head that reminded me of Vampirella.. so quick as a flash (which is pretty quick for me).. I scanned it in and added a spot of colour.. yummy!

I'm loving it! nice, simple and elegant.. splendid.. today turned out to be a good day after all!
