T-Shirt time!

Hi Boils and Ghouls! Have yourselves a very Merry Christmas my friends... and if the New Year finds you with a few pennies burning a hole in your pocket, I can highly recommend one of Red Bubble's splendid T-Shirts... especially seeing as how they have my designs on them! If you click on the banner over on the right hand side of my blog you can take a closer look at the first few designs that I have available there. Alternatively, you can just watch the pretty slideshow for a preview!

I got the above T-Shirt recently to check how they turned out before shouting about them and I'm really happy with the quality and the neat little touches regarding the packaging....

and it's all for a good cause.... ME!

MISSING LINK EXHIBITION IN PARIS

A while back I produced 2 images for the PICTOPLASMA project 'The Missing Link'... Below is an extract from an email I received from Peter Thaler-

We are very honored to herewith let you know that your Missing Link will be part of the main section of the exhibition!

A massive wall in the central exhibition hall will present 500 of the very best entries as unique digital prints, providing full credit to you as the artist.

Should you happen to be in or close to Paris during the month of December, we would be more than delighted to see you there!

WOO HOO!!!!!!

Fish in the water....

Super quick work up in Illustrator!

Where The Wild Things Are sketches

I may have mentioned before that I love Maurice Sendak's book 'Where The Wild Things Are'. It was a staple of my childhood (and now of my Son's). So in an attempt to generate some creativity last week I started doodling some of the characters. What's interesting (maybe) is seeing my process on each page of trying to simplify the images. Will definitely work these up as they 'excite' me a bit!

The girl who sorta liked skulls (a bit)...

Intending to work this one up as I really like the shapes (and the title)!

A couple of Wolfmen

A couple of lupine related sketches!

A Tiny Problem...

Another doodle turned out promising!

Satan's beard

No idea what I was thinking... I was watching X Men Origins: Wolverine at the time though!

Recent sketches

Here's a few of my sketchbook noodlings!... not feeling the love for drawing at the moment... Gee! There's a surprise!!

Next years Christmas Cards?

I did the attached illustration of Santa recently and it got me thinking a bit (not a lot mind you... just a bit!) Here's what I came up with. I was intending to screen print these as my personal christmas cards for this year (that's why they are all 2 colour), but due to my work schedule and current University crisis, I've probably left it too late for this year.

The Misfits UK Tour 2012

Here's a poster design (just for fun) for The Misfits up and coming UK tour in support of their cracking new album 'The Devil's Rain'.

Pleased with the simple/strong graphic shapes and contrasts. Feel a little better about my artwork in these last few days, I feel more 'comfortable' with what I do.

It's strange, but you'd have thought I'd have learnt by now to accept the way I work instead of trying to reinvent my artwork to fit in with my peers... There has to be a place out there for me surely?

Uncle Vladimir

Portrait circa 1813.

A short story...

'The Haunted Kettle' a short story by Shane.

Holy cow!

....this is quite possibly THE BEST piece of art I've done in a long long time... I don't know how or why or even where it came from... but by gum I like it!

WAR OF WORDS... ARCHER

Cor Blimey... it's been ages since we did this War of Words thing on a regular basis... I can't believe how prolific we used to be. This is the most recent word (and my entry for) ARCHER. It's Marvel Comics Hawkeye done in my own err... unique? way.

Those 80's Marvel costumes were pretty scary when you look back at them now!

Be Grim!

Here's a sketch and another quick illustrator work up (I did whilst watching the Wolfman remake on DVD). Really pleased with the shapes in this one... compositionally it hangs together pretty well for me!

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! My eyes!!!

Just having a bit of fun by 'freehand' drawing in illustrator (using the paintbrush tool) and incorporating some extreme colour combos. Strange how 'child-like' they look to me, the shapes and line thickness. I've also got a bit of a thing for triptychs at the minute... no idea why though!

I am working on a idea for a short story so that might have something to do with it I guess.

HO HO HO

It's almost here my friends! What have you asked for this year? Whatever it is, I hope you get it. This design came out of a quick sketch I made during my lunch break at work. I'm always searching for new ways to draw santa, and was really happy with this graphic approach.... so much so, that it gave me an idea!!!

Rockin' Robin

Here's another 'freestyle' illustrator image based on a rough sketch.

Smile please...

Went to an Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the Tate Gallery in Liverpool the other week... hugely disappointing experience on the 'artie farty' front... Felt a lot more inspired after visiting Liverpool's 2 comic/toy shops. Anyways... I've finally done an image from 'Alice' that I'm pretty happy with.

Best of all, it came together really quickly.. 1 Sketch and 1 'freestyle' Illustrator design.

QUACK

Did some character sketches of (yet another) Creature From The Black Lagoon type character recently... here's the first digital spoils from that exercise.

MMM... Snow!

Sorry... been busy doing MASTERS related things... here's a sketch I did last night as a Christmas Card idea.

I've been working on odd little things of late (and I have been documenting them) and I've every intention of uploading them shortly, but the course has been slipping away from me of late and I had to make a conscious effort to get some work done.

Something a bit different...

Here's an abstract idontknowwhat which I used to promote a show for Dashboard Confessional. Not sure what possessed me, I just liked the colours and the shapes (and it reminded me of their music somehow?) Been busy trying to get into gear for the MASTERS of late (but I'm failing miserably at the moment)... sigh!

... and for my next trick!

The juggler (of DOOM!!!!!)

Throws... in sketches

Here's the process from the original rough sketch (directly above) through to a colour mock that included the crucifix.

WAR OF WORDS... THROWS

Only one image came to mind for the latest word 'THROWS'.... that of Linda Blair's infamous pea soup spewing sequence from The Exorcist. Did the drawing last week, but this silly creative stupor I can't shake off has meant that I couldn't even bring myself to scan it in... Still... here it is now in all it's glory!!!

MINION

Here's a quick vector illustration of Minion for the great Dreamworks movie MEGAMIND.
