War of Words.. CAT

Some plainly obvious choices to be had for this weeks word... and why not? I'm kinda glad that Dave stuck to what he knows, because by the standard of his finished Catwoman it's really paid off.. BRILLIANT! Nice framing, lovely execution... HE'S BACK boils & ghouls!

I went for Cheetara from Thundercats (even though i'd done a much 'looser' representation before) I'm enjoying the 'sharp' shapes at the moment! so she followed suit.

New word for next Friday is LASER.. nice!

War of Words.. RING

I had a few ideas for this weeks word, which was quite refreshing for me! I decided upon The Green Lantern because I'd not drawn him up before. Originally I had envisaged the power of the ring creating a big boot to kick him up the arse because in the Justice League cartoon he's such a miserable bastard.. But as the drawing evolved I moved away from the 'joke' element.

Dave has produced a body of work based on norse mythology (the fruits of which can be viewed on his blog at http://davehiggins.wordpress.com/) included here is Thor!

though Dave remains in his illustration rut at the moment.. maybe next week's word will change things?

CAT.... then again...

The Last Kiss

Here's another super quick sketch/colour up. Done in 15 Minutes start to finish.. I think I must have a fire up my spout today for some reason??

Nice simple lines and shapes.. pretty stylized.. even for me!

Staci Stasis... In the beginning!

Here's the original sketch.. again, another 'guerrilla' piece. Took longer to colour up than 'supergirl', but still turned around pretty quickly!

Staci Stasis...

Intergalactic adventurer.. and bad ass gun slinger.. think Boba Fett's better looking sister!

Supergirl 2

...and here's the sketch! As you can see, I was working on a small piece of paper and ran out of space.. which is why her hand is missing!!

daa du da du daa...

Here's some 'guerilla' artwork I did this morning.. basically a 5 minute sketch, whacked in to Illustrator and coloured up in about 15 minutes... not bad I guess!

Queen B!

I loved the He-Man cartoon growing up... especially Evil lyn... what a dish! (erm... I mean.. what a complex and interesting character she was!).

Been wanting to draw up some Masters of the Universe characters for a while, and I've finally taken the plunge... here she is!

WOOT!

War of Words.. WHISTLE

Another week slips by.. another word! I thought 'WHISTLE' might have been a tough word, but in the spirit of creativity I created something unique, and really enjoyed the experience.

Dave has created a nice sequential story that subverts the tradition of the 'wolf whistle' and has done another fine job.. it looks great!

Next week's word.. RING!

Ding Dong!

It's coming boils and ghouls....

Book 3 of my collected works is on its way VERY SOON!

Books 1 and 2 are still available too if you'd care to take a look!

AMMO Magazine

Just submitted these 3 sample pieces in to AMMO MAGAZINE  www.ammomagazine.co.uk  in the hope that they like what they see and include me in a forthcoming edition of their lovely book.

Keep your fingers crossed for me guys!

A haunting we will go-go!

Taa Dah!!

Here's the finished Ghastly Ones poster, based on the scribbled sketch I did the other day. I'm still working on the 'Surf totem' poster, but it doesn't serve a purpose yet.. I saw that the band were playing their first gig of 2010 and felt that this 'casket ghastly' sketch really lent itself to representing that.

I know that gig posters don't necessarily have to have a direct connection to the subject (and very often don't).. but with regards to the aforementioned 'surf totem', I wanted it to represent something specific the band were doing... a festival or something... So I'm going to hold onto it for now.

2 Entries for the word of the week, due to the volume of content provided by Dave for this word.. It's really good to see that he bonded with 'Hero'.. and has plans to do more with these characters.. head over to his blog to read more about the character backgrounds and additional characters www.davehiggins.wordpress.com

Next week... er.. this week's word is 'WHISTLE'....

arse!

War of Words.. HERO pt1

I was determined to avoid the obvious with this weeks word.. So I put together this 6 panel strip depicting a conversation between Mothra and King Ghidora (from the Godzilla movies).

I've been marvelling at the wonderful work of Tom Gauld recently and I wanted to try my hand at capturing the feel of his work, but keeping it true to my natural style.. I'm not sure I succeeded, but I do like the 3 headed monster a lot.. think I might revisit him soon.
