Zombie in progress

I did this sketch back in September last year and promptly forgot about it (what with one thing and another)... but i've been working on a secret project recently and I came across it again. Here's a work in progress digital render of it. I'm just waiting for the band to start touring their forthcoming record so I can add some tour dates and get it finished!

Eat Me...

As part of the Masters, a small group of us descended on Liverpool back in November and were universally unimpressed and ever so slightly angry at the terrible exhibition taking place at the TATE Gallery celebrating ALICE IN WONDERLAND. The group decided to react in the best way we know... by creating our own artworks (with a view to exhibiting them ourselves... an Anti-Alice Exhibition if you will!) Above is a sketch done by my friend and colleague Mr Phillip Evans as a work in progress image. I liked it so much I asked if I could re-interpret it myself... and here it is... in all its technicolour glory!

Electric Wizard

Had a GREAT day at University just printing out some of my posters ready for Monday's assessment. Even found time to reuse a previously posted image (with some slight tinkering) for another mock poster, this time for UK DOOM Fiends ELECTRIC WIZARD.

HUNTRESS

Here's the worked up poster for an upcoming HUNTRESS gig based on a previously posted sketch. Starting to feel good about my work again at the moment! (SHHH... Keep it to yourselves though!)

BLACK MOTH

It's funny how an idea evolves. When I did the sketch of the "Bride's" head I was thinking of producing a poster for Zombina And The Skeletones or Psycho Motel. The shape of the head when mirrored reminded me of a heart shape (just in time for Valentine's Day)... and then I came across the band BLACK MOTH and all of a sudden the shape looked less like a heart and more like a moth... I added in the skull and began playing with the colours to best represent the band (and the amazing artwork on their debut single) and the above poster was born!

It's fair to say that this was heavily influenced by the amazing work I saw at The Richard Goodall Gallery last week too!

Promises

Here's the first sketch I did in my new sketchbook, and it's one of the best drawings I've done in a long time... really pleased with her.

Love is electric

Another train sketch (and an idea for a gig poster/t-Shirt design).

FOOOOOMMMM!

A sketch done on the train to Manchester last Friday.

On the Hunt(ress)

What a terrible pun! Anyways... It's the usual story that i've been busy writing and researching for the Masters and as a result my actual creativity has suffered once again!

However, I came across a new band called HUNTRESS (above) and decided to have a go at a poster design. Here are the initial sketches (one of which is seriously indebted to Bruce Timm) for possible work up.

I went over to the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester on Friday to take a look at the exhibition there and was really inspired to get back into producing Gig posters... so hopefully you'll be seeing a few more pop up from now on.

Vampire's Everywhere

Because I've been researching Character brands for the Masters of late, here's an experiment that I quite fancy doing some more with. I wanted to create a cute character in the style of Hello Kitty, yet (as is my want) have a horror themed link with it... So here's my first attempt (and some initial design layouts too).

What do you guys think? Is it worth me pursuing the idea any further?

The Cat in the Hat

The TINY ART Flickr group theme for this month is 'Dr Seuss' and here is my digital render of The Cat In The Hat. The cool thing about TINY ART is that contributors create original pieces in a 2.5 x 3.5 inch format to trade with one another in the group. I'll have to scan the hand drawn version of this in to post it before I mail it off to the States for trade so you can see how terrible my drawing actually is!!!

Back from the dead...

It's been forever, but a very, very, very, very long time ago I did some artwork for a British Horror Punk band called The Dead Pleasures... I've FINALLY got round to photographing the evidence to prove that I was actually used (and I didn't just make it up!)...

Dead Pleasures: A Chorus of Corpses (Robot Monster Records) USA.

ahh... look at my baby soft hand and chubby little fingers!

Book Of Creation!

Here's my double page spread from the Very First issue of a new French Language Publication 'The Book Of Creation' (Oracom Publishing). My grateful thanks goes out to Stephanie and colleagues for allowing me to be a part of this great new magazine... and I get to share the same space as LOU LOU & TUMMIE (amongst many more great creatives) so I am officially 'Chuffed to bits'!!!

I hope it brings me new opportunities to create more art!!

WAR OF WORDS... TINSEL

Meet Tina Tinsel!

The War Of Words has pretty much died a death of late, which is such a shame seeing as how prolific it made me as an illustrator. TINSEL was a word I chose over a month a go and although I did the sketch for it in plenty of time the lethargy caused by the Masters course meant that I couldn't face working the image up.... It's time for change though... I am the MASTER of my own destiny!

The Fallen Hero

Former MANOWAR drummer Scott Columbus tragically lost his life in the later part of 2011 and it's been a long time coming, but here's my tribute to the man that played the custom 'Drums of Doom' in a great Heavy Metal band!

He also rocked the mustache like no other!

Wherever you are Scott... keep hammering those skins!

The first FINISHED PIECE of 2012!!!

Record Release Poster for the smashing new(ish) band SURVIVAL GUIDE, produced whilst listening to their 2 downloadable EPs.

The first sketches of 2012..

Very rough sketches they are too!! but all the same they are seeds of ideas.

What happenend to 2011?

Happy New Year everyone!! (sorry it's a little late)..

What a strange year 2011 ended up being! I've no idea what happened to December!! I've done very little in the way of drawing over the last month and this is largely due to the Masters Course I'm on... Truthfully it's a pretty unplesant experience, and it's completely sapped me of my drive to create. The 2 brief's that we are working on for 16th Jan deadline are research modules, and as such offer me no joy whatsoever... I really dislike research (even if it's a subject I'm partial to)... but to just touch base with you all (and to prove that I AM actually doing SOME research) here is an updated INFLUENCE MAP, which was an exercise I recently completed to try and visualise some of the stronger influences on my (currently non-existent) work.

Appearing (in no particular order) are:

BRUCE TIMM, DEREK YANIGER, BEN CAMPEROS, CRAIG MCKRAKEN, SANJAY PATEL, ALBERTO CERRITENO, BEN NEWMAN, SHAG, SHANE GLINES, BELLE DEE, PAUL FRANK, BOB STAAKE, DARWYN COOKE and GAMA-GO (with TIM BISKUP).

Hopefully things will pick up on the creative front in the short term and you'll have some more pics to look at shortly.

One good thing happened over Christmas on the art front though... I recieved my copy of The Book Of Creation (published by Oracom) with my double page spread in!! Must upload some pictures of it!!
